John Adey is the President of the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC). John joined ABYC in 2002 after owning and operating a marine supply and fishing tackle business with his wife in New Jersey. He previously served as ABYC Technical Director managing major boating-safety grants for the US Coast Guard and overseeing boating-standards development. He was promoted to Vice President in 2009 and appointed President in 2012.

John has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialty in nonprofit organization management. He is a past member of the USCG Boating Safety Advisory Council, a newly certified SCUBA diver, and lifelong boater. John and his wife live in Maryland and sail their Catalina 320 every chance they get.
